Last full week of the school year, and it’s a busy one!

    • HS Concert Band & Wind Ensemble Combined Rehearsal, Advisory – 4:00PM
  • Wednesday, 5/23
    • Band Officer Elections during class
      • (Marching band members who do not have Mr. Herwig for class, stop by before school, during lunch, advisory, or after school to vote.)
    • MS Concert Band Combined Rehearsal, Advisory – Dismissal
    • SPRING BAND CONCERT, 7:00PM
      • Report times:
        • HS Jazz Band – 5:30PM, report to Auditorium
        • MS Concert Band 6:00PM, report to Auditorium
        • HS Concert Band and Wind Ensemble 6:15PM, report to Band Room
  • Thursday, 5/24
    • Commencement Band Rehearsal, Dismissal – 4:30PM
      • (All commencement band members must attend this rehearsal.)
  • Friday, 5/25
    • Marching Band Memorial Day Rehearsal, Dismissal – 4:15PM
      • (Mandatory for all students who participated in marching  band during the 2017-2018 school year.)

Reminders

  • Senior Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band Members – Your senior info form and picture for the concert program were due to Mr. Herwig on Friday. This MUST be turned in by the end of tomorrow (Monday, 5/21) if you want to be featured in our program.
  • All Marching Band contracts and equipment forms need turned in to Mr. Herwig ASAP. If you do not turn in both forms before the end of this week, it will be assumed that you are not participating in the Marching Band during the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Report time for next Monday’s Memorial Day Parade (5/28) will be announced later this week.
  • All spots for next year’s department trip to Disney are now filled. Any students who wish to attend, but have not committed to the trip yet will now be placed on a waiting list.

Band Officer Elections for 2018-2019

All students interested in running for a band officer position for the 2018-2019 school year, information can be found in the PDF available for download below. Mr. Herwig will have hard copies available in the band room.

Band Officer Election Information

If interested, the following positions will need applied for:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Field Commander
  • Marching Captain

Requirements and instructions for applying for each position can be found on the PDF available to download above.

All materials are due by this Friday, May 18th. Voting for President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary will take place on Monday, May 21st.

Reminders

  • We are almost out of available student spots for the 2019 Music Department Trip to Orlando. If you are planning on attending the trip, you must reserve your spot this week. If you have not turned in your first payment yet and/or the two required forms (Disney Trip Agreement & School Overnight Trip Agreement), please turn it in to Mr. Herwig ASAP. The two forms can be downloaded and printed from our Disney Trip page (click here to be redirected to that page).
  • The Spring Mercer Middle-Senior High School Band Concert will take place next Wednesday, May 23rd at 7:00PM in the Mercer Middle-Senior High School Auditorium. The concert will feature the High School Jazz Ensemble, Middle School Concert Band, High School Concert Band, and High School Wind Ensemble. Combined Rehearsals for this concert (which are listed on the syllabus for each ensemble), are posted in the band room.
  • All 2017-2018 members of the 5M Band will be participating in the Mercer Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28th. Our rehearsal for this parade is on Friday, May 25th from dismissal until 4:15PM. If you have a conflict, please make Mr. Herwig aware ASAP. Even if you miss the rehearsal, all current 5M members are still expected to participate in the parade. Report time for the parade is TBA. This performance is for current marching band members only. All new members will not join the band until Mini Camp at the end of July. 
  • All marching band contracts and equipment order forms were due Friday, May 11th. If you are joining marching band for the 2018-2019 school year, turn in these forms ASAP. Students can pick up a copy of each form from Mr. Herwig in the band room. You can also download and print out the forms here.
  • Remember to check back periodically for any updates of the marching band calendar. It will be updated periodically between now and the beginning of next school year any time a new event is scheduled. The calendar can be found on our Band Forms page (click here to be redirected to that page).

  • The first Disney payment was due this past Friday, May 4th. If you have not turned in your first payment yet and/or the two required forms (Disney Trip Agreement & School Overnight Trip Agreement), please turn it in to Mr. Herwig ASAP. Here is the schedule for the upcoming week!

  • Tuesday, 5/1
    • 41st Annual Mercer Band Banquet, 6:30PM in the Mercer High School Cafeteria
  •  Friday, 5/4
    • Jazz Band Rehearsal, Advisory – 4:15PM
    • First Disney Payment due

Reminders

  • As stated above, the first Disney Payment is due this Friday, May 4th. In addition to the $220 payment, all students should also turn in a signed Band Trip Agreement and School Overnight Trip Agreement. Both forms can be downloaded and printed from the “Disney Trip 2019” page on this website. You can also be re-directed to that page by clicking here. All materials should be turned in to Mr. Herwig or the lock box in the band room in an envelope that is clearly labeled with the student’s name.
  • There was an overwhelming number of students who signed up for commencement band! This is great, but unfortunately space for the band is limited in the auditorium during commencement, so we cannot have 30+ musicians participate. Mr. Herwig will offer spots this week to students who signed up in order of grade and instrument (older students will be offered positions in the commencement band first). Rehearsal dates and times for commencement band will be announced at a later date.

Memorial Day Information

The 5M Marching Band will be performing in the Mercer Memorial Day Parade on Monday May, 28th. This is a required performance for all students who were members of the 5M Band during the 2017-2018 school year. Time of the parade and report time for students will be announced at a later date.

There will be one rehearsal to prepare for the parade, which will be held on Friday, May 25th immediately following dismissal until 4:15PM. Please mark this on your calendars, and contact Mr. Herwig ASAP if you have any conflict.

Reminders

  • The Band Banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 1st at 6:30PM in the High School Cafeteria. All students and families planning to attend should have turned in their reservation slip and payment this past Friday, 4/20.
  • The first Disney Payment is coming up soon (Friday, May 4th). Please remember that two forms (the Band Trip Agreement and the School Overnight Trip Agreement) are also due along with the first payment. All information and forms for the trip can be found on our website on the “Disney Trip 2019” page. You can also be redirected to that page by clicking here.
  • Any students interested in performing in the commencement band (open to all current band students in grades 7-11) can sign up in the band room this week. A rehearsal schedule will be announced soon once all interested students are signed up.
  • Just a reminder that the current members of the 2017-2018 5M Band will be participating in the Memorial Day Parade on May 28th. Please make sure to mark this on your calendars, as it is one of our most important performances of the year. Rehearsals for this performance will be announced soon.

Thank you to all who participated, spectated, and supported the Mercer Band Program during our Sweet Sounds recital last week. We are incredibly lucky to have such a supportive community that cares so much for our school and Music Department. A special thank you to our Band Boosters who volunteered their time to help collect desserts, set up, and tear down the cafeteria for this performance. Our program could not possibly function without them!

 

There is only one event on the calendar this week:

  • Friday, 4/13
    • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal, Advisory – 4:15PM

 

Reminders

  • There are currently two opportunities to fundraise. All students should have received the materials for the Fun Pasta fundraiser as well as the Tumbler fundraiser last week. There are extra copies for both fundraisers available in the band room. The due date to turn in all order forms and money for both fundraisers is Monday, April 16th. Fundraisers can be turned in to either Mr. Herwig or Mrs. Christy. Please make sure all materials are clearly labeled. 
  • All students who are planning on participating in Marching Band during the 2018-2019 school year need to pick up a Marching Band Contract if they have not done so already. Copies are available in the band room. An electronic copy can also be downloaded and printed out here.
  • The High School’s Musical production of “Anything Goes” will take place this Thursday-Saturday (April 12-14). All three performances will be held at 7:00PM. Please come out and support the students and all of the hard work they have put into this production!

Reminders

  • Band Banquet Reservation forms are due by April 20th at 3:15PM. Please turn in your form to the lock box in the band room. Extra forms can be found in the band room.
