The 5M will have the 3rd quarter off, and hopefully you will have an opportunity to connect with a few of the current members! Several Alumni have been leaving after the half-time and gathering at some of the local establishments – whether you stay or go, the important part is having you come back and join us to perform!

The cost of the event (including commemorative t-shirt, and pre-game dinner) is $15 (Checks should be payable to Mercer Band Boosters – please pay that day). Instrumentalists will be using the same navy shirt as from previous years. ALUMNI FRONTS are now using a pink shirt that we started using at 2015 homecoming event. Whether you are a first time returnee for Alumni Band or a Multiple-Year Returnee– Please click on this ridiculously long link and fill out the reservation form for the event. We need to ensure we have an accurate count for shirts and for the meal. Look ing forward to seeing many of you return and perform! Don’t forget to share on Social Media so that we can reach as many of our alumni as possible!

This trip will include performances by the 5M Marching Band, the Senior High Jazz Ensemble, and The Senior High Concert Band & Wind Ensemble. Middle School Concert Band members that are part of the marching band will be invited to join the SH Concert Band/Wind Ensemble performance on the trip.

Report time for the game at Hickory has been moved up to 4:30 p.m. Departure will be at 5:00 p.m. The departure time has been adjusted to accommodate our band joining Hickory’s band for a mass band performance during pre-game that will honor first-responders and members of the armed forces. Music for this combined band performance was made available at rehearsal on August 26th – please see Dr. Weller if you still need it. Upon arrival at Hickory, our band will meet with Hickory’s band to rehearse the music for the pre-game performance. Exact details of staging and field position will be discussed at rehearsal on Friday.

As our departure time has been moved up, we will take a food order for the game on Friday. Stop by the band room on Tuesday to pick up a food order form. Orders will be due by the end of school on Wednesday.

For our performance at half-time on Friday at Hickory, we will perform All Along the Watchtower, The Midnight Hour, and September.

5mcolorMEGA-CAMP is Monday, August 8, through Friday, August 12, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, at the high school. Water, sunscreen and comfortable shoes are a must, as the kids will be outside marching most of the day. Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds for lunch, so you need to either pack lunch for your band student or bring lunch to them (lunch breaks happen around 12 noon.) This is a very fun week of making friends and bonding, including a theme each day…

Monday: ‘Merica Monday (American theme)
Tuesday: Olympic Day (students have already been assigned a team and color)
Wednesday: Hush button/Hat day
Thursday: Senior Appreciation Day
Friday: Section Unity Day (You may want to ask you student about this early in the week, so you aren’t running out Thursday night for costumes/apparel)

PARENT PICNIC & PREVIEW is Friday, August 12 at 6:00 p.m.

Come and see what the 5M Band has learned during band camp. This event is mandatory for students. The family picnic (any and all family, not just parents) starts at 6:00 p.m. in the grass near the concession stand.

Band Boosters will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, condiments, drinks and cups. Band family members are asked to bring your own place settings, chairs, and a dish to share: Last names A-G(side-dish), H-N (dessert), and O-Z (salad). Immediately following the dinner at 7:00 p.m. there will be a brief meeting in the stands to inform band families about upcoming events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities.

Then at 7:20 p.m. the 5M Band will present a preview of their half-time show for the upcoming season. Band members should wear their summer uniform for the performance. For instrumentalists this includes 5M t-shirt, tan shorts, band socks/white socks & white shoes. For band fronts it includes blue 5M shirt, navy 5M shorts, and white tennis shoes.

MARCH-A-THON
Your student should have brought home a paper about march-a-thon last week. The 5M band will be conducting a March-A-Thon during its summer band camps from Monday, August 1 through Friday, August 12, 2016. THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO EARN MONEY FOR THE 2017 TRIP…DON’T MISS OUT! The students ask friends and family to pledge money per mile or give a set amount. All money is due in the lockbox by Tuesday, September 6th. Prizes for the most money raised and for the most number of sponsors will be given! This is the best fundraiser because you would be surprised how willing people are to sponsor you instead of buying a product that they may not want during other fundraisers. Get out there and ask for pledges!

FOOTBALL PROGRAM AD
The band parents have an opportunity to purchase an ad in the football program that will come out the first or second game this fall. The band photos will be featured in the program as well as football and cheerleaders. Proceeds go to the Mustang Football team. Download the Football Program Ad by clicking on this ridiculously long link.

ONLINE STORE
The on-line Mercer Bands apparel store is open for business! While no purchase is necessary, we hope you will find a few items of interest to proudly display support of the band. Visit the online store at Custom Corner Printing (Click the GO button next to Mercer Band 2016). The store will be open today through 8/22 at 9:00 AM for orders. Items will be in on 9/2. We will notify you of a specific time/location for pickup at the high school. Be sure to check out this year’s band tour t-shirt with the ‘Tribute Tour’ theme.
