Don’t forget! March-a-Thon sheets and funds raised are due by Tuesday, September 5th. Feel free to collect pledges until that day. We marched 22 miles during camp this year! Make sure that funds are placed in a sealed envelope labelled with your name and dropped off in the lockbox in the band room.

Anyone who did not take home a March-a-Thon form can download one at the link provided below. Remember, this fundraiser benefits each student individually! If you are planning on going on next year’s trip, now is the time to start fundraising.

Any questions can be addressed to Mr. Herwig at jherwig@mercer.k12.pa.us

  • Bring an extra pair of socks each day incase your feet get wet while we work outside.
  • Bring a pencil!
  • Make sure to bring along your instrument and any accessories you may need (reeds, valve oil, cork grease, etc.) every day.
  • Dr. Arnold will be visiting camp on Tuesday, August 1st to fit students for dinkles or boots. If you have not ordered dinkles/boots and need a new pair, you will be able to place an order with Dr. Arnold when he stops by.
  • All new members are invited to stay after the first day of Mini Camp (Monday, July 31st) until 2PM. We will provide pizza and beverages for all new members who stay after!
  • Between now and camp, please read the Marching Band Handbook to review all that is expected of students during camp. A copy of the handbook can be found here.
  • All students are expected to report to the band room, ready to begin, at 9AM on Monday, July 31st.

It’s going to be a great season! Looking forward to a fun and productive band camp!

Hello!

Hello to all members and parents of 5M!

My name is Mr. Herwig. I’m the new Director of Bands at Mercer Area Jr. – Sr. High School, and I can’t wait to meet each of you and get started with the upcoming marching band season! We have some exciting things planned! This band has done great things in the past, and I plan on putting yet another fantastic half-time show on the field again this year. Before I get into the details for this season, I’d like to give you a little information about my background.

I recently graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. While at Slippery Rock, I studied saxophone as my major instrument. I played in a variety of ensembles such as the SRU Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and Saxophone Quartet. I also spent four years as a member of the Slippery Rock University Marching Pride, and was selected as drum major during my junior and senior years. I student taught with Dr. Weller during my senior year of college. After college, I spent the past two years as the high school band director in the Titusville Area School District.

As a former student teacher of Dr. Weller’s, I am very aware of the great work that this group has put together before this year, and this season will be no different. I’m very excited for our first season together to begin! I’d like to let you all know that the dates that were previously assigned for both weeks of camp will remain the same for the upcoming season. Our first rehearsal together will take place on the first day of mini-camp, Monday, July 31st at 9:00AM. The full marching band calendar for this season is attached below.

Have a great remainder of your Summer break, and I am very much looking forward to meeting and working with each of you. Should you need to reach me between now and camp, please feel free to send me an email at jeffrey.herwig@gmail.com.

Thank you!

Mr. Herwig
