  • The Trip Preview Meeting for students and parents will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The regular May Booster meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m.
  • High School Jazz Ensemble will rehearse on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from the start of advisory until 3:30 p.m. Other May rehearsals for Jazz Ensemble include May 11 and May 18 (both of these rehearsals will begin during advisory and conclude at 4:00 p.m.).
  • Band Officer Elections will be  held on Thursday, May 4th during band periods.
  • The Band Banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at 6:15 p.m. Seniors should remind their historian to drop off their scrapbook by Monday, May 8th to Dr. Weller.
  • The following dates are scheduled spring trip practices.   • New marching band forms & schedules for returning and incoming instrumentalists are now available in the band room! Don’t miss out to become part of the band as it moves forward into a new era!
  • Band fronts should stop in during the week of May 15th to make sure they have everything ordered for the upcoming marching band season.
  • The final concert of the year is Tuesday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. Report times are as follows: Jazz Ensemble 5:45 p.m., HS Concert Band & Wind Ensemble 6:10 p.m., Middle School Band at 6:30 p.m.  Tentative Concert Order will be  Wind Ensemble, HS Concert Band, Middle School Band, Trip Band, Symphonic Band. Jazz Ensemble will be interspersed between groups similar to other concerts.
  • Sign-ups for commencement band will begin this week. Rehearsals are held throughout the day on May 30-31st, the Senior Awards Ceremony held on June 1 (during school) and commencement on June 2 (held in the evenings). You must be present (unless taking a final) for all rehearsals and performances. Selection to commencement bands is on the basis of seniority, instrumentation needs, and if you have an older sibling that is graduating.

Seniors can apply for the Band Booster Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is due to the band office by Friday, April 28th. Information can be found in the band room, or by clicking here..

Band Members interested in becoming part of the leadership team for the band program are encouraged to write a letter of intent for a band office for the 2017-18 school year. Information and office duty descriptions can be found in the band room or in the instrument storage room. Elections and interviews for the various positions will be completed by Friday, April 28th.

New marching band forms & schedules for returning and incoming instrumentalists are now available in the band room! Don’t miss out to become part of the band as it moves forward into a new era! Need some perspective on why marching band is just so valuable and worthwhile? Read here and here!

Band Banquet reservation forms will be available beginning on April 10th.

Senior Banquet Forms are available by clicking here. Seniors are asked to type directly into the form and email it back to Dr. Weller at his school email address tweller@mercer.k12.pa.us.

Jazz Ensemble members are reminded of the upcoming April rehearsals (Advisory until 4:00 p.m.) on the following days: April 6, 11, 18 & 25 (note change from original schedule).

Jazz Ensemble should take note of the upcoming rehearsals THIS WEEK:
Tuesday, March 14th (ADV-4:00 p.m.) – note change from rehearsal schedule.

Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble Members will be performing on Wednesday evening, March 15, 2017 for our annual “Sweet Sounds Recital”.  Attire is all black, and accent colors for this performance are green and/or orange. Report time is 6:20 p.m. Dessert will begin being served at 6:30 p.m. and music will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Mini-Camp for the 2017-18 Marching Band has been tentatively set for July 31 to August 1-4, 2017. Mini-camp will meet each day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday August 1st will include a luncheon for the leadership team, 1st year members (rookies) and the percussion section. The afternoon session (1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.) will involve orientation training for the 1st year members and a sectional for the percussion. Mega-camp for Marching Band has been tentatively set for August 7-11, 2017. Mega-camp will begin each day at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m. Students will have 45 minutes for lunch beginning at noon each day. The Parent Picnic and Preview hosted by the Band Boosters has been tentatively scheduled for Friday, August 11th beginning at 6:0o p.m. Our performance in Kennywood is Sunday, August 13th. 2017 Marching Band Schedules are now available.

An updated Trip Itinerary is now available. If you have not already signed up for your room, please do so as soon as possible. Once you have signed your room of four up there will be no switching permitted. If you do not have a room of four, please contact Dr. Weller prior to school or during advisory.

Congratulations to Freshmen Jess McGraw, Samantha Jarrett, Darby Miller, Chris Wilms, and David Ellis and Middle School Concert Band Members Kylie Allen, Emma Taborek, Julia Balaski, Tyler DeLorenzo, Luke Krouse, Grant Haggard, and Peyton Miller who will represent Mercer in the PMEA District 5 Band Fest on Tuesday, March 28th at Mercer High School.

Speaking of the band fest:

  1. Do you have a wire music stand at home? Dr. Weller is in need of extra stands for the day and can put yours to use for the day if you would consider letting the bands borrow. Please bring it to Dr. Weller’s office and it will be tagged with your name and returned to you when the festival is complete. If you can let our band borrow your wire music stand, please bring it in to Dr. Weller by Friday, March 24th.
  2. There are several student committees that will need volunteers. If you are a sophomore, junior or senior band student and interested in volunteering some time on Monday after-school and Tuesday during the day into the evening, please see the sign-up sheets that will be posted by Thursday, March 16th outside the band office.

The concert on March 2, 2017 begins at 7:00 p.m. As a reminder, attire for the concert is all black dress clothes for both ladies and gentlemen.

Middle school students will be dismissed at the beginning of Period 8 on Wednesday, March 8th for the purpose of attending the PMEA Assessment Festival at Westminster College. Students should have received a permission slip during their band period, and it is to be returned by Friday, March 3, 2017.

wpid-wp-1411937505388.jpegThe final Pep Band of the year will be on Tuesday, February 14th. It is a girls-boys double-header and there will be Senior Recognition for both teams. Report time is no later than 5:15 p.m. The annual pizza-wings party for Pep Band will be held immediately after the game in the band room.

Best wishes to Abby Grabigel, Claudia Brown, and Clifford Hughes as they make final preparations for their trip to Butler for the PMEA District 5 Band Festival! They will audition for a spot in PMEA Region I Band on Thursday evening.

A few workers are still needed for the Spaghetti Dinner that the Band is holding in cooperation with the American Legion in  Mercer on Sunday, February 12th. Even if you are not going on the trip, consider donating some time to help your peers out.

Don’t forget that the Simply Sweets Chocolates Valentines Fundraiser orders and money are due by Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Orders can be placed in the Booster Box in the band room.

Jazz Ensemble will rehearse on Thursday, January 19th beginning during Advisory and concluding at 4:00 p.m. Due to District Orchestra on Thursday, January 26th, Jazz Band rehearsal scheduled for that day will be held on Friday, January 27th from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. Please notify Dr. Weller of any conflicts with this change in schedule by Thursday, January 19th.

MS Band members who wish to make a recording for the JH Fest are reminded their recording must be completed by Wednesday, January 25th at 3:30 p.m. Please contact Dr. Weller this week if you have any questions about the requirements.

Wind Ensemble Auditions will commence on Monday, January 30, 2017. The music and audition requirements are now available from Dr. Weller. Auditions must be completed by Wednesday, February 8, 2017. You may sign up for audition times outside Dr. Weller’s office. With the shift in focus to more solo repertoire and chamber ensemble pieces, the instrumentation for wind ensemble next year has changed dramatically. Please consult the informational posters located in the band room and instrumental storage room.

Mercer County Honor Band Participants – The County Honors Band event is scheduled for Monday, January 9th (all day at Thiel) and Tuesday, January 10th (departing at the start of Period 9). The concert will be held on the evening of January 10th at 7:00 p.m. in Passavant Center on the campus of Thiel College. Be sure that you have a lunch packed for January 9th. SH Students will receive their uniform during the day on January 10th. JH students will wear black pants, white top, and dress shoes (Gentlemen are encouraged to wear a tie).

Middle School Band Members are reminded that audition material for the PMEA JH Band Fest need to be recorded between January 17 and January 25th. See Dr. Weller this week to set up an audition time.

Jazz Ensemble will rehearse on Thursday, January 12, 2017 beginning during Advisory and concluding at 4:00 p.m.

Pep Band has a game on Friday evening. Report time is 6:30 p.m.
